Update on Research Project...

Hi All,

I can really start to empathise with researchers and the rollercoaster experience that they go through emotionally during their research process. I've just had an opportunity to discuss my research report with Karin and Colin at the Rhodes Roadshow. The build up to the Roadshow was frightening - I was able to start defining my research question but ran into a number of "Road Blocks". Having discussed the topic with Viv, Eileen, Colin and Karin, I now feel much happier - there is still a lot of work ahead but at least I feel that I have more direction. After wanting to give up, I feel inspired again !! Without support, the research process is a very lonely one.

Hullo

Hullo all

It's been really great reading the blogs and seeing what an interesting mix of people the Academy participants are. We at Rhodes have been working pretty hard at our research proposals, thanks to the Library Director who is keeping us on our toes! Like my colleague Debbie, I also felt a fair amount of frustration while trying to get to grips with a reseach topic, but have now made some progress, thank goodness. We are having our Academy Roadshow over the next 2 days, so I'm hoping my research proposal will be acceptable!

Hi
We were encourage to use the blog to say how we are going with our research project and the academy. Well, I have to say that when I think I am getting somewhere, and that perhaps I am on the right track, I discover that I'm off track again. So when I carry on with lit reviews, I start to feel that maybe i am readings the wrong articles. Must keep plodding on and maybe i'll get there

Introducing myself

Hi

I'm Danie Malan Information Specialist at the Merensky Library (Main Campus) University of Pretoria. I am responsible for the following Departments. School for Build Environment: Architecture, Construction Economics and Regional and Town Planning; School for IT: Informatics, Information Science and Computer Science; Natural Science: Geology and Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology. I’m also responsible for the Management of the Merensky Library and the IT Department of the University of Pretoria.

I started to work as a student in the Library at the photo copy section in the Library long before outsourcing. From there I moved to the lending counter and then Facilities Management where I was the Head and in 2003 I started my "new career" as Information Specialist on level 5 of the Merensky Library. I had a couple of Engineering subjects but at the end of 2009 we were doing some reshuffling on level 5 and I passed my Engineering subjects to my colleague.

I am looking forward to meet everyone, and being part of this exciting opportunity!
