Everything coming together

Hi, After Karin's presentation this morning so many issues have been made clearer. Giving the researchers what they need, seems not to be such an impossible task. Well done to all those that gave their presentations today. Looking forward to an early night without Bill Bryson!

I agree, there were quite a few interesting insights from the presentations: (1) new research arears to explore (e.g. the statistics we collect), (2) UCT's approach to CD, (3) Rhodes's move towards e-resources, etc. Great day.

The day certainly was a long but rewarding and exciting one - especially after the Bill Bryson quiz, the cricket was still on and we managed to catch the last few overs of India beating Pakistan which was a close call. Karin's presentation was excellent with a broad overview of "what researchers want from librarians". Some interesting discussion on Collection Development by Joan Rapp and Digby Sales should be an eyeopener for our institution to take a serious look at our policy of budget allocation and who should be in "control" of the book allocation.
