Librarians on the move

Yesterday various librarians from the participating institutions started the long-awaited trek to Mont Fleur near Stellenbosch. Speaking to my colleagues from Rhodes on route I realised that we all share the same fears and anxieties about the academy. I was very happy to know that I was not the only one who felt that his research paper has come to an abrupt halt over the last couple of weeks! I aim to change this and over the next couple of weeks (especially my time at the academy) to really sit down and get the momentum going again. I now know that the worst thing to happen over the next ten days would be to continually face the longing to see my wife and kids.

Contrary to previous experiences, our flight from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town took place with the least amount of problems. This positive start ended as soon as the shuttle service firstly tried to fit all the suitcases and bags (containing mostly files with our printouts for the academy) into the shuttle, getting slightly lost to Mont Fleur due to road works, and as a highlight for the day (successfully!) doing an 18-point turn on a very narrow road bordered by a ditch. Unloading our suitcases was also a bit of a tricky event.

After finally getting to Mont Fleur, I only then realised how incredibly beautiful the area is. Mont Fleur is situated in the Blaawklippen Valley surrounded by the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountain ranges. We are really fortunate to have been granted this opportunity!

Wynand. You said it in a nutshell. We are all feeling the same about our role, and experiences with the academy. Our travels were momentous and we are privileged to be at such a wonderful conference centre like Mont Fleur. Debs
