From hydrogen fueled cars to the SKA demonstrator - librarians DO matter!

Our first day has been incredible in so many ways. The speakers were all absolutely brilliant and every session informative. The highlight for me is to be able to see visibly how what we do as librarians, add to the ability of others to complete research - research which I can't really even begin to fully comprehend. We should really be proud to be librarians!

Considering the amount of information we had to take in today, it was still amazing that the participants enjoyed themselves and were willing to listen right up to the end.

And we got to play!

This is a model of a hydrogen-fueled car that demonstrated the use of platinum alloys in the strive to create a more efficient and alternative fuel supply (I hope I got it right!) - research underway at UCT.

An obvious spin-off of the academy is the opportunities to share with colleagues.

Here Eileen (Rhodes University) is discussing the use of LibGuides with colleagues from other institutions. It is amazing how each institution has something which they can share and in the process contribute to increasing knowledge.

Can't wait to listen to tomorrow's presenters!
