Tuesday

Another amazing day at the academy. The weather is still lovely and the food to die for! The best koeksisters ever with tea this afternoon and braaivleis, roosterkoek and delicious salads tonight. And don't forget the meringues with fruit and cream for dessert - thank goodness for the fruit; it makes one feel a little less guilty.

The lectures today were once again very interesting and presented by (mostly) very good speakers. I was especially impressed by Prof Stan du Plessis who made Economics become alive and interesting. I must remember to read the books by Russel Roberts (novels with an economic background) he recommended. The highlight of the lectures for me was the one by Prof Martin Villet, forensic entomologist from Rhodes, perhaps because I love forensic crime fiction. He just loves his insects and talks about CSI (crime scene insects!) and the flying squad (flies you find at a crime scene). Then we also had Prof Scarlett Cornelissen from the Department of Political Science at Stellenbosch, Prof Alex Duffy, Chief Curator of the Heritage Collections of UP, Ms Yaliwe Clarke from the African Gender Institute at UCT and Prof Donald Foster from the Department of Psychology at UCT who really made us think "About Knowledge".

The walk up the mountain at sunset was lead by Michael from Mont Fleur and it was lovely to see Table Mountain from a different angle and to hear all the little bits of information that Michael provides about the flowers, the plants, etc. We even saw a porcupine footprint.

Greetings
Naomi
